Finance Committee restores $250,000 sidewalk plow to capital plan

Finance Committee · Meeting of April 2, 2026

Sturbridge Finance Committee restores $250,000 sidewalk plow to capital plan, breaking with the Select Board. Members voted 4-3 to reconsider their earlier 6-0-1 recommendation on Article 13, then rejected a motion to strip the sidewalk-clearing attachment, 2-5, before voting 4-3 to approve the full article, bringing its total to $1,110,927. The Select Board had voted 3-0-1 to remove the item, with Selectman Chase Kaminsky moving to cut it and Selectman Mary Dowler casting the lone vote to keep it.

"It's been mandated and it's been told it is needed," one Finance Committee member said, while another warned "we're taking responsibility for clearing sidewalks that don't belong to us." The committee also voted 7-0 to take no action on Article 60 and approved minutes from two prior meetings, 5-0-2 and 6-0-1.
