Finance Committee approves four warrant articles for town meeting

Finance Committee · Meeting of April 23, 2026

Sturbridge Finance Committee unanimously backs four warrant articles ahead of Monday's town meeting. The panel voted 9-0 to amend the veterans services budget, cutting personnel costs to $11,274 after a planned regional staffing arrangement fell apart, restoring a plan to hire the town's own veterans agent for 10 hours a week. Members also approved a $294,556 transfer for the snow and ice removal deficit and $105,000 from the sewer reserve fund for wastewater treatment plant clarifier repairs, both 9-0.

Free cash is projected to land at $3,791,255.85, about 8.2 percent of the operating budget. Minutes from three prior meetings were amended and approved, including a 7-0-2 vote on March 12 minutes and an 8-0-1 vote on April 9 minutes after member Larry successfully argued to strike a bullet point he said mischaracterized his consultation with the town planner.
