Sturbridge Conservation Commission Approves Order For Mashapog Road Cleanup
Conservation · Meeting of April 2, 2026
Sturbridge Conservation Commission unanimously finalizes cleanup order for 71 Mashapog Road after three-year enforcement dispute. Members Eric Gaspar, Ed Goodwin, Sandra Mone and Karsten Stuber voted 4-0, three separate times, to approve a waiver and an order of conditions, DEP file number 1224, permitting removal of stored vehicles and debris from the property's 200-foot wetland buffer. Commission counsel, identified only as Luke, called an argument that the order approved anything beyond that removal "disingenuous at best and not legally defensible." Members struck a condition requiring wetland boundary markers at 50-foot intervals for any future work, after debating whether it added clarity or confusion, and tightened standard condition 12 so it authorizes only the activity "approved" rather than "described" in the order.
