Sturbridge Select Board refers a data center moratorium to the Planning Board ahead of a November vote. The board unanimously opened the warrant for the November 16 special town meeting and placed eight articles on it, including a Walker Pond culvert easement and a sewer pump station generator, without endorsing their substance. Members voted to publicly support a tentative Teamsters Local 170 contract that runs $20,000 to $25,000 over budget due to a restructured wage scale, pending town meeting funding.
Police Chief reports showed calls for service climbing from 2,465 in June to 2,871 in July, with the department "fully staffed" after a stretch of officer training. Senior Center Director Leslie Wong said a Pickleball U fundraiser raised $3,000 for fuel-assistance efforts as diesel neared $7 a gallon. Town Administrator Robin outlined ongoing talks over a new regional 911 dispatch entity needing more than 20 new hires.
