STURBRIDGE — The Sturbridge Finance Committee unanimously recommended a $20,000 betterment appropriation for the Big Alum Lake Association to fund a consultant study on algae blooms and invasive weeds affecting the 200-acre lake. Finance Committee Chair Kevin Smith deferred recommendations on three Special Town Meeting articles (Snow and Ice Removal Deficit, Unpaid Bills of a Previous Year, and Wastewater Treatment Plant Clarifier repairs) until final budget figures are available at Town Meeting. Environmental Chair Tim Harrington of the Big Alum Lake Association told the committee that the lake study aims to identify sources of the environmental problems before pursuing mitigation measures.

The committee tabled discussion of a "Dichotomy Budget Analysis" examining systemic tax and land-use policy issues.
