Conservation Commission votes to close hearing on stored vehicles
Conservation · Meeting of March 19, 2026
Sturbridge Conservation Commission closes hearing, clears path for court-ordered car removal. The board voted unanimously to close the public hearing on a notice of intent covering a vehicle storage site, after applicant representative Gary Magnuson of CMG Environmental said the property owner faces an April 6, 2026 deadline from a Dudley District Court magistrate and the town's zoning enforcement office to remove cars from a wetlands buffer. Special counsel Luke told the board "the commission could, of its own volition, close the hearing," and advised issuing a partial order covering only removal, not future operations.
A special meeting was set for April 2 to vote on the draft order. In a second item, the commission unanimously approved a $16,451.58 contract with Fieldstone Natural Resources for the Lead Mine Forest Stewardship Plan, funded largely by a $15,905.18 state DCR grant.
