Community Preservation Committee · Meeting of February 2, 2026
Sturbridge Community Preservation Committee unanimously approved $2,245,000 in appropriations to fund a trail and bridge project downtown. Chair Penny Dumas explained the committee would appropriate $1,545,000 from the Community Preservation Fund Undesignated balance and $700,000 from the Open Space balance, eliminating the need for borrowing that fell short of the required two-thirds vote at last year's Annual Town Meeting. Finance Director Barbara Barry confirmed the full project cost could be covered through the proposed allocations.
The Trails Committee expects a $500,000 Massachusetts Trails grant that would reduce the Community Preservation Act contribution if received.
